Sancerre- Domaine du Nozay-The White Terres
Domaine du Nozay Le Nozay is a small 17th century castle located near the village of Sainte Gemme en Sancerrois north of Sancerre. The property entered into the lap of the family after having belonged to Marguerite de Bonnemain (December 16, 1853-July 16, 1891) mistress of General Boulanger (April 29, 1837 - September 30, 1891) The Nozay takes a different form in 1961 to the announcement of the new expansion area of the Sancerre appellation in the municipality of Sainte Gemme en Sancerrois. It was in 1970 that Baron Philippe de BENOIST and his wife Marie-Hélène came to settle in Nozay Castle in this magnificent setting which later became the Domaine du Nozay Armés their will and their eagerness to create a vineyard in Sancerre, Philippe and Marie-Hélène BENOIST plant the first hectare of sauvignon, the king grape variety of Sancerrois, in 1971 an area that they will extend over time to 15 hectares. After a first harvest in 1974, the medals and other prizes are not long in coming to reward the work of Philippe, joined in the vineyard and the cellars for some years by his son Cyril. The latter has made his weapons among the older brother of Marie-Hélène, Aubert de VILLAINE, co-manager of the mythical Domaine de la Romanée Conti, and owner of a vineyard in Bouzeron, A and P VILLAINE assisted for ten years year by Pierre de BENOIST the second son of Philippe and Marie-Hélène. Convinced of the benefits of organic cultivation, the Domaine du NOZAY has been in conversion since 2011. In order to be able to adopt an environment-friendly approach, and controlled yields, they intend to take the Domaine du NOZAY to the top of the quality.
